Patient and Public Involvement

"We need to ensure that everyone in society has a voice that is heard. When people get involved and use their voice they can shape improvements in provision and contribute to greater fairness in service use."
White Paper: Our Health, Our Care, Our Say 2006

The Trust is committed to delivering high quality, patient led services by enabling patients, carers, the public and stakeholders to contribute to the development, organisation and evaluation of services.

This commitment and over arching aim is viewed as integral to the delivery of equitable and accessible ambulance services. The following documents demonstrate the Trust's work towards this committment.

Views are actively sought and systematically integrated into the various aspects of service provision through:

  • provision and receipt of information (e.g. through campaigns, interactive website menus, appreciations, complaints, concerns and day-to-day staff and patient interactions.)
  • consultation (e.g. with the Trust's Patient and Public Involvement Forum, collation of interactive feedback from communities with panned events by the newly commissioned multi purpose health and PR vehicle, through questionnaires and focus groups).
  • working in partnership (e.g. joint planning teams).
  • developing a programme for undertaking discovery interviews in order to search and showcase the views of service users.
  • developing task groups under the auspices of the Trust's new Equality and Diversity Committee.
  • the extensive community engagement work by the Operational and Public Relations and Communications teams e.g. school visits, talks at community meetings, educational activities in collaboration with other statutory services (Junior Life Skills courses that present scenarios to children to raise awareness and educate).
  • engagement work and attendance at the nine Overview and Scrutiny Committees within the Trust's area.
  • Patient Experience reports devised from Patient Advice and Liaison (PALS) and Complaints feedback and trend analysis.
  • the interactive new Trust website link.
  • the dedicated patient and public feedback email (publicrelations@swast.nhs.uk) which is monitored daily.

If you would like to become involved in this important area of work or simply require more information, please email publicrelations@swast.nhs.uk.
