Making Diversity, Equal Opportunities and Human Rights a Reality

We are currently in the process of revising our approach to “Making Diversity, Equal Opportunities and Human Rights a Reality”. Our vision is to mainstream equality, diversity and human rights practices into all areas of our service delivery and patient care.

The Trust views the new Equality Act 2010 and the associated Public Sector Equality Duty as an opportunity to confirm our commitment to promoting equality of opportunity and eliminating discrimination, whether in delivering a service to our customers (patients and community) or in the employment of staff. To make this change we have adopted the NHS Equality Delivery System (EDS).

Moving forward in 2012 we propose to remove any unnecessary paperwork or processes and integrate our work on Equality and Diversity into our main strategy, planning and monitoring processes. The Trust aims to further focus on priority actions which really make a difference to our customers and our staff.

We are proposing to use this web page to bring together our work to ensure it is transparent in what we have committed to do and how we are going to do it in order to recognise when our objectives are achieved. This site will be under development during 2012.

We welcome feedback and constructive challenge to our proposals not only to meet our legal obligations, but also to ensure we provide a high quality service for the diverse population we serve and become an exemplar employer for all staff.

The Trust Board, Staff Side representatives and senior managers will continue to demonstrate, through their leadership and practices, their commitment to equitable and fair treatment.
